Your data

Privacy policy

This policy explains what Sportsplit collects, why it is needed, who can receive it, and the choices you have.

Last updated 21 July 2026

The short version: Sportsplit uses your information to run the app, help players organise games, and keep the service safe. We do not sell your personal data.

Who is responsible for your data

Sportsplit is developed and operated by Bera Icli. For privacy questions, requests, or complaints, email hello@sportsplit.co.uk.

Information we collect

  • Account and identity: account identifier, name, email address, sign-in provider, and account creation and update times.
  • Player profile: profile photo and information you choose to add, such as city, biography, birth year or date of birth, gender, handedness, favourite sport, equipment, and sport profile or rating details.
  • Matches and social activity: matches, places and venue coordinates, dates, players, scores, court costs, paid/unpaid status, booking status, match history, friends, groups, invitations, join requests, blocks, and reports.
  • Communications: direct, group, and match-chat messages; support or feedback messages; and notification preferences.
  • Device and service data: push-notification tokens, subscription entitlement status, locally stored app preferences, and basic security or operational information processed by our infrastructure providers, such as timestamps, IP address, device/app information, and service logs.

Optional device permissions and integrations

  • Location: when you allow it, Sportsplit uses your approximate device location to suggest or autofill your city and support nearby discovery. Profile or match-place coordinates you save can be stored with your account or match.
  • Camera and photos: used only when you choose a profile image. The selected image is uploaded to Firebase Storage.
  • Calendar: when enabled, Sportsplit creates and updates match events in a dedicated calendar on your device. We store an identifier needed to keep the integration in sync, but do not upload the contents of your other calendars. Your calendar provider may sync the events under its own privacy terms.
  • Notifications: when allowed, Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging process a device token so Sportsplit can deliver match, chat, and account updates. Some reminders are scheduled locally on your device.
  • Weather: to show match conditions, Sportsplit sends a match place's latitude, longitude, and relevant date or time to Open-Meteo. We do not send your name or email address with that request.

You can change device permissions at any time in iOS Settings, although related features may stop working.

How we use information

  • Authenticate accounts and keep them secure.
  • Provide profiles, player discovery, friends, groups, matches, chats, and notifications.
  • Calculate and record shared court-fee status; Sportsplit does not transfer money.
  • Provide calendar, location, venue, and weather features you choose to use.
  • Verify premium access, respond to support, prevent abuse, enforce rules, and improve reliability.
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect users, Sportsplit, and others.

Legal bases

Where UK or European data-protection law applies, we process data as needed to provide the service you request and perform our agreement with you; with your consent for optional device permissions; for our legitimate interests in operating, securing, supporting, and improving Sportsplit; and where needed to meet legal obligations. You may withdraw permission or consent without affecting earlier processing.

Who receives information

  • Other Sportsplit users: profile details, public-match details, participation, scores, fee status, and communications are visible to the people or groups involved, as the feature indicates. Do not post information you do not want those users to see.
  • Google Firebase: Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Messaging, and related infrastructure store or process app data on our behalf. Read Firebase privacy information.
  • Apple: Apple processes App Store purchases, Sign in with Apple, push delivery, and device services under Apple's terms. Sportsplit receives subscription or entitlement status, not your full payment-card details.
  • Other feature providers: Google may process Google sign-in, Open-Meteo processes weather requests, and an email-delivery provider may process account or support emails. They receive only the information needed for that service.
  • We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, investigate abuse, or protect rights, safety, and the service.

We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use an in-app advertising SDK to track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Subscriptions and fee records

In-app subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple. Apple controls payment information, billing records, refunds, and subscription management. Sportsplit checks verified StoreKit transactions and may store a premium-access flag so app and backend features apply the correct access level.

Court-fee entries only help players calculate and mark shared costs. Sportsplit is not a payment processor and does not collect bank-account or payment-card details for settling those amounts.

Retention and account deletion

We retain information while your account is active and for as long as reasonably needed to provide and secure Sportsplit, resolve disputes, or meet legal obligations. Retention can vary by data type and the context in which it was provided.

You can delete your account in Profile → Settings → Delete Account. The app removes your authentication account, private and public profile documents, and profile image, and cancels matches you organised. Some shared or safety-related records — such as match history, messages, reports, or records needed by other players — may remain with your identity removed or shown as “Removed Account.” Apple keeps its own purchase records under its policies. Device-side preferences or calendar items may remain until you disable the integration, remove them, or uninstall the app.

If you cannot use in-app deletion, contact hello@sportsplit.co.uk. We may need to verify that you own the account before acting.

Your choices and rights

You can edit profile information in the app, manage permissions in iOS Settings, change notifications in Sportsplit and iOS, disable calendar integration, leave groups or matches where supported, and delete your account.

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or a portable copy of personal data. Email us to make a request. UK users may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

International processing and security

Our providers may process information in the UK, European Economic Area, United States, or other countries. Where required, transfers rely on recognised safeguards such as adequacy decisions or contractual protections.

We use access controls, authenticated accounts, Firebase security rules, and encrypted network connections designed to protect data. No online system is completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password and protect your device and sign-in accounts.

Website storage

The Sportsplit marketing site does not use advertising trackers or analytics cookies. If you use a web sign-in feature, Firebase Authentication may use essential browser storage to maintain your session and protect the sign-in flow.

Age limit

Sportsplit is intended for people aged 18 or over. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

Policy changes and contact

We may update this policy as Sportsplit changes. We will post the revised version here with a new date and provide additional notice when a change is material and required by law.

Questions or requests can be sent to hello@sportsplit.co.uk.
